UCCCA Spring Film Festival:

The Upper Catskill Community Council of the Arts was invited by the New York State Council on the Arts to reapply for funding this past year, in support of UCCCA FilmFest. The invitation represented an opportunity for the arts council to increase its support and expand film programming. We submitted our grant request and the panel and staff at NYSCA recommended funding. After a long awaited period of stalled funding, NYSCA was able to release funds as recommended to support the film series. The Spring Film Series is showing at the Foothills Performing Arts Center on Market Street in Oneonta. We look forward to seeing you there!

Main Characters Exhibit Opening

Main Characters explores how each person is the “main character” in his or her own life. Using a multi-disciplinary approach that included acting, writing and painting, Main View Gallery artists explored the theme of identity and what makes each of us who we are. The result is a multi-layered celebration of each artist’s unique characteristics and personality as revealed in poetry, self-portraits and life-size paintings.
Free and open to the public.
The exhibit runs until May 21, 2010.

Two very special events will be highlighted: The world premiere of the work: Esquisses for Saxophone and Orchestra (in memoriam- Alfred Gallodoro) by composer Dana Paul Perna (2009) featuring Saxophonist Susan Fancher and Hartwick College Orchestra/Jason Curley Conductor. There will also be two special performances by saxophone/clarinetist Leslie Walters Simmons from transcriptions directly and painstakingly made from Al’s recordings of Harlem Nocturne and Fantasie Impromptu.
